Three facts most accessibility apps will not tell you.
Color contrast, form labels and focus order are Level AA criteria you have to check on the actual store, in its actual configuration. Custom themes and installed apps usually add more places to fix.
The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025, but it is transposed country by country, so the exposure depends on where you sell. Germany caps the fine at 100,000 EUR where a service is offered without meeting the requirements, and at 10,000 EUR for information duties. Businesses under 10 staff and 2M EUR are outside the service requirements.

An overlay adds a widget in the browser, it does not change the theme code. In January 2025 the US Federal Trade Commission settled with accessiBe for 1 million USD, alleging its claims that the widget could make any site WCAG compliant were unsubstantiated, and that paid articles were presented as independent reviews.

Questions, answered honestly
Overlays are JavaScript widgets that sit on top of a page and toggle visual settings at runtime. They do not change your underlying theme code, so screen readers still see the original markup. AccessifyAI works on the theme code instead: for each issue you get the exact change to the source, a real alt attribute, a real ARIA label, a real focus outline, plus a link straight to that file in the Shopify code editor. You make the edit, and from then on the fix survives a page refresh and a script blocker.
You can cancel from your Shopify admin at any point during the 14-day trial and you will not be charged. EU consumers also have a separate 14-day right of withdrawal under Directive 2011/83/EU. We process refund requests within 14 days, as required.
No. We scan the public storefront URLs your store already serves. We do not request the read_customers or read_orders Shopify scopes and we cannot access your customer database. The only data we keep is your scan history, applied fixes, and the AI fix log, which is deleted 30 days after you uninstall.
A code generator produces a snippet. We produce a unified diff against the exact file in your theme, with the original line context and the failing WCAG criterion, plus a deep link to that file in the Shopify code editor. You paste the change in yourself and mark it applied, which dates it in your fix history. AccessifyAI does not write to your theme.
No, and we will never claim it. WCAG conformance requires manual review of context-sensitive criteria like meaningful alt text on decorative-vs-informative images, and accurate page titles. We automate everything that can be automated and give you the evidence pack for the rest. In 2025 the FTC fined accessiBe 1 million USD for misleading "100% compliant" claims. We are not going to repeat that.
Yes. We scan the live storefront URL, so the theme source does not matter. Fixes work the same way on every theme, because we do not touch your theme files at all: you get the diff and a link to the right file in the Shopify code editor, and you make the edit there. The app never asks for a theme write scope.
